For Simon and Dee Sherwood, launching a GreenThumb Franchise in Swindon was not just a new venture but a new way of life.
Forced to escape their home and family run farm in Zimbabwe due to the worsening political climate, the couple immigrated to the UK. Simon’s background, as an agricultural commercial farmer for 35 years, has served him well. He says: “GreenThumb was the perfect opportunity waiting for us. My experience provides a good platform on which to service our customers.”
Common problems they encounter in the Swindon area are Leatherjackets and Red thread due to the warm damp summer of last year and water logging, a result of the predominately clay soils. Since launching the service in 2006 they’ve encountered the challenge of chasing a rabbit around a customer’s garden. Simon says: “It took an hour-and-a-half to catch and safely restore it to its hutch before treating the lawn!” All inclusive and part of the service for more than 1,000 customers! Above all, their expert advice and professional service costs less than the lawn treatment materials on sale in a D.I.Y store.
Simon says: “We strive to provide an efficient, professional and friendly, family run service, to improve and maintain the healthy condition of our customers’ lawns.”
