Nothing makes Tyler and Donna Stevenson happier than popping round to check on a lawn that has been transformed from a mossy weed infested patch to a lush green sward.
The couple set up their GreenThumb business, based in Blackburn, in 2002 with just 20 customers. Today they and their five staff look after thousands of lawns in north Lancashire, from Darwen through the Ribble valley to Gisburn, and from Osbaldeston to Accrington, keeping them all looking lush, healthy and free from weeds and pests. Every lawn receives four pre-scheduled treatments of fertiliser and weed killer each season.
As well as keeping lawns looking good, GreenThumb’s Lawn Operatives, Simon Rae, Ben Taylor, Frazer Millar and Daniel Wright, are skilled at dealing with local problems, like the area’s heavy clay soil, which causes moss in the winter and bakes dry in the summer. Two years ago GreenThumb’s expertise was in demand tackling Leatherjackets – the grubs of craneflies – which can destroy lawns. Tyler and his team were able to restore the lawns in a matter of weeks.
But what makes Tyler and his wife Donna really happy is receiving thank you letters from delighted customers.
"I thought my front lawn was beyond repair. I really thought it was past saving but now instead of an embarrassment, my lawns look great, it's amazing. I am really pleased with everything you have done."
