The GreenThumb franchise in North Antrim was set up in March 2004 by Elaine Moore and Paul McDowell.Today they and their three Lawn Operatives look after thousands of lush green lawns in the beautiful part of Northern Ireland, which includes the famous Giant’s Causeway world heritage site and Glens of Antrim.
Each customer receives four lawn treatments throughout the year– for less than the price it would cost to buy the materials in a D.I.Y store to do the job yourself. We are now able to offer a monthly Direct Debit facility allowing you to pay for our services more easily.
The company tackles a host of common conditions such as lawn pests and diseases. Leatherjackets, the grubs of craneflies, can destroy lawns, especially in the spring by feasting on grass roots killing off the lawn. Another problem is Red Thread, a fungus caused by warm, wet summers.
Moss is also a big problem facing lawns in Antrim North, Paul says: “The weather seems to be getting much wetter and this leads to problems with moss but there is a lot that we can do to help control its growth such as aeration and scarification."
Elaine, who used to work in education, says: “We aim to continue growing the business, providing a high standard of work and after care.”
