When Ian and Suzanne Richardson took over the GreenThumb franchise for Fylde in 2006 they had just 300 customers.
But since then business has boomed.
For today they have thousands of customers who all receive four lawn treatments a year to keep their grass looking green and lush.
Their delighted customers, located in the Blackpool area from Lytham to Fleetwood, pay less for their lawn treatments than it would cost them to buy the materials at a D.I.Y store and do it themselves.
Ian and his three crewmen are all experts in keeping lawns in tip-top condition and in dealing with the special problems that affect the area’s gardens.
Leatherjackets, the grubs of crane flies which feast on grass roots, are a particular problem that affect lawns on the sandy soil along the Flyde coast from January to June. Chafer grubs can also damage lawns.
Ian adds: “Red thread, a fungus caused by warm, wet summers has also been a problem recently and ants have played their part in damaging lawns.”
Ian and Suzanne, aim to make sure that the whole of the Fylde coast associates GreenThumb with a reliable service that produces excellent results.
